Serviceberry

Servicebrry is also called Juneberry for its edible berries that mature in June. It is one of the first trees to flower in the mountains, which in the past let people know that soon the preachers would return to the small remote hollows to deliver sermons in the churches after a winter of isolation. Its leaves come in various red and gold colors before turning green and hve delicate feathery tuffs that delight me, and complement the delicate white flowers.

‘Serviceberry’ is a 3 plate soft-ground etching and engraving printed on 100% rag paper. i created this from a tree growing along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina. After spending some time on location drawing ,I took some photos of the flowers to finish the plates in my studio. i am in the process of printing a limited edition of 95 signed, numbered, and hand-pulled prints and a few working proofs. title remains with the artist.
